Answer By: Ahmad Syahrin Thoriq When we read the usual writings we find the words SAW or SWT, which are abbreviated forms of the words shalallahu'alaihi wassalam and subhanahu wata'ala. Abbreviation here is for the purpose of being more practical and not filling the page with just the same words being repeated. If asked whether abbreviating sentences of blessings and praises to Allah is prohibited or not, then the answer is that in general the scholars forbid this. Because in the view of the majority of scholars, written law is no different than oral law. So when saying shalallahu'alaihi wassalam is written only with a series of letters like SAW, then it is the same as the law of someone who when praying to the Prophet ﷺ he does not say blessings, but reads "saw".
