WHY CAN THE NU AND MUHAMMADIYAH HILAL BE DIFFERENT? By: Ahmad Syahrin Thoriq Why can the start of fasting and the time of Eid be different for Muslims? The answer is because there are several factors that cause it. Are as follows : First , some scholars use the concept of one Mathla', namely if a country anywhere has seen the new moon, then the others just have to follow. While other scholars use the stipulation of many mathla', namely each country uses its own new moon. Second , some scholars say that to determine the new moon, it is sufficient to calculate the science of reckoning. Meanwhile, other scholars argue that reckoning is only a tool, not a determinant. To determine the entry of the beginning of the month, it must be by direct rukyat. Third , there is the concept of rukyatul hilal, imkanun rukyatul hilal and rukyatul hilal. What else is that?
