ZAKAT WITH MONEY HAS BEEN WRONG? By: Ahmad Syahrin Thoriq A video circulated stating that zakat fitrah in the form of money worth 2.5 kg is illegal. Likewise, if you want to issue it with money, it must be worth the price of dates or Arabic staple food, not with rice. Is that right ? Such a statement is incorrect in a number of ways: 1. The majority of world fatwa institutions until today state that the practice of giving zakat by combining the Hanafiyah opinion which allows value (money) with the jumhur school of thought which requires staple food is permissible and legal. Such is the fatwa from Majma' Buhuts al Islamiyah-al Azhar, Darr ifta' Mishriyah - Egypt, Lajnah Daimah - Saudi, MUI - Indonesia, Darr Ifta' Kuwait, Qatar and other Arab countries. 2.
