Not many people know that the Black Stone was stolen and disappeared for 22 years
Black Stone at the corner of the Kaaba at the Grand Mosque
Mecca – The Black Stone is a black stone located in the eastern corner of the Kaaba in the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
The Hadith of the Prophet narrated by At-Tirmidhi states that the Black Stone is a stone from the rocks of heaven. This stone was deliberately brought by the Angel Gabriel from heaven and given to the Prophet Ibrahim who was carrying out the construction of the Kaaba on Allah's orders.
According to Islamic tradition, the Black Stone was originally a white stone that shone brightly. However, due to human sins, the stone began to fade and turn black.

When Prophet Ibrahim AS and his son, Prophet Ismail AS were building the Kaaba on Allah's orders, the angel Gabriel gave them the Black Stone as a guide to mark the first place in the construction of the Kaaba.
For hundreds of years, the Black Stone has been a symbol of Muslim unity during the Hajj pilgrimage. Every year, millions of Hajj pilgrims from all over the world try to touch or kiss the stone as they perform tawaf, which involves circling the Kaaba seven times.
However, not many people know that the Black Stone was once stolen and lost for 22 years, you know!
The theft of the Black Stone occurred with bloodshed.
In 930 AD, the Black Stone was stolen by a Qarmatian leader named Abu Tahir al-Qarmati. This theft shocked Muslims and caused great concern throughout the Muslim world.
Not only was the Black Stone lost, along with this event, there was also a mass massacre of Hajj pilgrims and the population of Mecca in general. This cruel event was also carried out by the Qarmatian group.
This was narrated by Ibnu Kathir in Al-Bidâyah wan Nihâyah. Here's the story:
Once upon a time during the Hajj season in 317 H/886 AD, a group of robbers came to Mecca to cause trouble.
They are a Qarmatian group (including Shia Ismailiyah) under the leadership of Abu Thahir Sulaiman bin Abu Said al-Husain al-Janabi.
Their existence is very feared.
Just hearing his name, the people of Mecca immediately protected themselves. Coincidentally, the Hajj pilgrims from Iraq under the leadership of Manshur ad-Dailami who were going to Mecca this year were their targets.
Exactly on the day of Tarwiyah (8 Dzulhijjah), the Qarmatians confiscated all the congregation's property, and did not even hesitate to massacre any congregation they encountered.
Many worshipers were killed. Their bodies were then thrown into the Zam-Zam well, some were also buried in the Haram land and the location of the Grand Mosque, without being washed, shrouded or offered prayers. "I can't believe it, in the glorified month of Dzulhijjah (including Ashhurul Hurum), in the holy land of Mecca, even near the Kaaba, Qarmatians did all this as if they felt innocent," wrote Ibnu Katsir in Al-Bidâyah wan Nihâyah.
The Black Stone then disappeared and was kept in an unknown place for 22 years.
In 952 AD, after diplomatic negotiations between the Qarmatians and the Abbasid government, the Black Stone was finally returned to Mecca.

The Black Stone has great spiritual and historical significance for Muslims. For Muslims, this stone is not just a stone, but also a symbol of Muslim unity, religious history, and devotion to Allah SWT.
Every year, millions of Muslims come to Mecca to experience an unforgettable spiritual moment by touching or kissing the Black Stone as part of their pilgrimage.

Keberadaan mereka sangat ditakuti.
Mendengar namanya saja, orang-orang Mekkah segera mengamankan diri masing-masing.
