Rocky Gerung: Up to 27 generations, regional judges can't afford Rubicon wheels
Academician Rocky Gerung asked that the salaries of judges be increased. Rocky asked that the salaries of judges, especially those in the regions, be increased 30 times that of tax officials.
This was conveyed by Rocky when he was a speaker at the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Indonesian Association of Judges, Monday (20/3/2023). At first, Rocky talked about the problems of judges to become judges with integrity. According to him, unmet basic needs are one of the reasons judges are easily tempted by corruption.
"How much does a judge in the area get paid, Rp. 7.10 million. Up to 27 generations he will not be able to buy Rubicon wheels, even to go to court he has to hitchhike the lawyer's car. Because he doesn't have a car provided by the state. That's our condition. So if we want to be rational, make sure that the basic needs of the judges in that area are met. Don't give him a house, don't give him a sofa, he doesn't have a cupboard. Today he wants to have a meeting, his clothes have been stolen by thieves, so there is a real problem," said Rocky.
Rocky continued, it is impossible to talk about integrity if the judge's basic needs are not met. Because of that, he asked that the judge's salary be increased 30 times the tax officer's salary.
"Give him facilities so he won't be bothered by the assholes around him. Prepare the infrastructure well. What can be done? Give a salary 30 times the salary of a tax official. 30 times that. Judges produce justice, tax officials rob justice," he said .
Rocky then explained why judges are easily tempted by a luxurious lifestyle. Because, according to him, judges in the regions feel inferior among other officials.
"If the judge is not glorified, he will change his needs into wants, he will change his needs into desires. That means corruption, corruption occurs when needs turn into desires, the need to fulfill rational things in life goes directly to irrational things. Why would a tax officer who has a Rubicon want to do that," concluded Rocky.

Akademisi Rocky Gerung meminta agar gaji hakim dinaikkan. Rocky meminta gaji para hakim, terutama yang di daerah, dinaikkan 30 kali lipat dari pegawai Pajak.
Hal itu disampaikan Rocky saat menjadi pembicara dalam peringatan HUT ke-70 Ikatan Hakim Indonesia, Senin (20/3/2023). Rocky mulanya bicara problematika hakim untuk menjadi hakim yang berintegritas. Menurut dia, kebutuhan dasar yang tidak terpenuhi menjadi salah satu penyebab hakim mudah tergoda korupsi.
"Hakim di daerah gajinya berapa, Rp 7, 10 juta. Sampai 27 turunan dia nggak bakal mampu beli velg Rubicon, yang bahkan untuk pergi ke pengadilan dia mesti nebeng mobilnya si pengacara. Karena dia nggak punya mobil disediakan negara. Itu kondisi kita. Jadi kalau kita mau rasional pastikan bahwa basic needs hakim-hakim di daerah itu terpenuhi. Jangan kasih dia rumah enggak kasih dia sofa, dia enggak punya lemari. Hari ini dia mau bersidang bajunya habis dicuri maling jadi problem real itu ada," kata Rocky.
Rocky melanjutkan, tidak mungkin bicara integritas jika kebutuhan dasar hakim tidak terpenuhi. Karena itu, dia meminta agar gaji hakim dinaikkan 30 kali lipat dari gaji petugas Pajak.
"Kasih dia fasilitas supaya dia tidak diganggu oleh bangsat-bangsat di sekitarnya. Persiapkan dengan baik infrastrukturnya. Apa yang bisa dilakukan? Beri gaji 30 kali lipat dari gaji petugas Pajak. 30 kali lipat. Hakim memproduksi keadilan, petugas Pajak merampok keadilan," ujarnya.
Rocky pun lantas membeberkan alasan hakim gampang tergoda bergaya hidup mewah. Sebab, menurutnya, para hakim di daerah merasa rendah diri di kalangan para pejabat lainnya.
"Kalau hakim tidak dimuliakan dia akan berubah needs-nya menjadi want dia akan ubah kebutuhan dia menjadi keinginan. Itu artinya korupsi, korupsi terjadi kalau ini kebutuhan berubah menjadi keinginan, kebutuhan untuk memenuhi hal yang rasional dalam hidupnya langsung untuk hal-hal yang irasional. Ngapain petugas pajak punya Rubicon mau ngapain itu," pungkas Rocky.
