Observer: If the Coalition for Change wants to go smoothly, Anies-AHY should be the choice
Executive Director of Poltracking Indonesia Hanta Yuda said that if the Coalition for Change wants to go smoothly in the 2024 Presidential Election, then their chosen presidential candidate, namely Anies Baswedan, must hold Democratic Party Chairperson Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) instead of East Java Governor Khofifah IndarParawansa.
Hanta said AHY was more realistic and rational if he looked at the survey data as the 2024 vice presidential candidate.
According to him, determining the vice presidential candidate in the Coalition for Change would be challenging.
Moreover, the three parties in the coalition, namely Nasdem, PKS, and Democrats, agreed to nominate Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate.
"So far, Anies Baswedan is the candidate for president in the Coalition for Change, and the three parties have agreed. The position of cawapres will indeed be a challenge for the Coalition for Change," said Hanta when asked for confirmation, Thursday (9/3/2023).
According to Hanta, the Democratic Party definitely wants AHY to become the vice presidential candidate to accompany Anies.
However, said Hanta, if this choice is realized, the political calculations will not be easy.
"Because the three parties in the Change Coalition will also be fighting in the 2024 Legislative Election at the same time," he said.
He also acknowledged that Khofifah Indar Parawansa was also a potential option for the Change Coalition in seeking Anies' vice presidential candidate.
Hanta said Khofifah could not be ignored even though her position was not like that of AHY, who was often included in the top four potential cawapres in various surveys.
"AHY, in several surveys, is included in the top four potential vice presidential candidates besides Ridwan Kamil, Erick Thohir and Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno. However, the name Khofifah Indar Parawansa cannot be ignored," said Hanta.
Hanta explained, Khofifah should be considered because she served as governor in one of the major provinces in Java.
In addition, Khofifah has a voter base from Nahdlatul Ulama (NU).
"Of course there is another desire, namely hoping to bring NU voters who are inseparable from today's political constellation," he said.
Even so, said Hanta, AHY remains a more realistic figure to accompany Anies than Khofifah.
Hanta suggested that the Coalition for Change choose the Anies-AHY pair if you look at the current survey data.
"If the Coalition for Change wants a smooth road that is more realistic, more rational, and stronger in terms of the survey so far, AHY is the choice," said Hanta.
"Currently, Anies-AHY is taller and has more electoral prospects than pairing with the others. But far from that, winning the election must finalize all considerations of victory in the upcoming February 2024," he said.

Direktur Eksekutif Poltracking Indonesia Hanta Yuda mengatakan, apabila Koalisi Perubahan ingin langkahnya mulus di Pilpres 2024 maka capres pilihan mereka, yakni Anies Baswedan harus menggandeng Ketua Umum Partai Demokrat Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) ketimbang Gubernur Jawa Timur Khofifah Indar Parawansa.
Hanta menyebut, AHY lebih realistis dan rasional jika melihat data survei sebagai cawapres 2024.
Menurut dia, penentuan cawapres di dalam Koalisi Perubahan bakal menantang.
Apalagi, ketiga partai dalam koalisi, yakni Nasdem, PKS, dan Demokrat sepakat untuk mengusung Anies Baswedan sebagai capres.
"Capres di Koalisi Perubahan hingga saat ini sudah ada Anies Baswedan, dan ketiga partai sudah sepakat. Posisi cawapres memang akan menjadi tantangan tersendiri bagi Koalisi Perubahan," ujar Hanta saat dimintai konfirmasi, Kamis (9/3/2023).
Menurut Hanta, Partai Demokrat sudah pasti menginginkan AHY menjadi cawapres untuk mendampingi Anies.
Namun, kata Hanta, jika pilihan tersebut terealisasi, hitung-hitungan politiknya tidak akan mudah.
"Karena ketiga partai di Koalisi Perubahan pada saat yang sama juga akan bertarung di Pileg 2024," ucap dia.
Ia pun mengakui bahwa Khofifah Indar Parawansa juga potensial sebagai opsi bagi Koalisi Perubahan dalam mencari cawapres Anies.
Hanta mengatakan, Khofifah tidak bisa diabaikan meski posisinya tidak seperti AHY yang kerap masuk ke dalam empat besar cawapres potensial di berbagai survei.
"AHY dalam beberapa survei, memang termasuk ke dalam empat besar cawapres potensial selain Ridwan Kamil, Erick Thohir, dan Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno. Namun, nama Khofifah Indar Parawansa tidak bisa diabaikan," tutur Hanta.
Hanta memaparkan, Khofifah patut dipertimbangkan lantaran dia menjabat sebagai gubernur di salah satu provinsi besar di Jawa.
Selain itu, Khofifah punya basis pemilih dari Nahdlatul Ulama (NU).
"Tentu ada keinginan lain yakni berharap bisa membawa pemilih NU yang tidak terpisahkan dari konstelasi politik hari ini," kata dia.
Walau begitu, kata Hanta, AHY tetap menjadi sosok yang lebih realistis untuk mendampingi Anies ketimbang Khofifah.
Hanta menyarankan Koalisi Perubahan memilih pasangan Anies-AHY jika melihat data survei saat ini.
"Jika Koalisi Perubahan ingin jalan mulus yang lebih realistis, lebih rasional, dan lebih kuat secara survei sampai saat ini, AHY jadi pilihan," ujar Hanta.
"Saat ini, Anies-AHY lebih tinggi dan prospek secara elektoral ketimbang berpasangan dengan yang lain. Tetapi jauh dari itu, winning the election-nya harus mematangkan semua pertimbangan kemenangan pada Februari 2024 mendatang," kata dia.
