TALFIQ'S LAW (TALFIQ LAW) 𝗛𝗨𝗞𝗨𝗠 𝗧𝗔𝗟𝗙𝗜𝗤 By: Ahmad Syahrin Thoriq In Arabic, the word talfiq (التَّلْفِيقُ) comes from the word (لَفَّقَ – يُلَفِّقُ – تَلْفِيقاً) which means to combine or connect something with another.[1] Meanwhile, by definition, talfiq is combining two or more schools of thought in a practice of worship.[2] For example, someone who, when his ablution is sufficient, only washes a few strands of hair, following the Shafi'i school of thought, and when touching a woman, he does not repeat his ablution again, because he follows an opinion that says it is not null and void, such as the Hanafi school of thought. So that with such a merging model a new procedure for worship emerges that is not taught by any of the existing schools of fiqh. So that some scholars define talfiq by: الإتيان بكيفية لا يقول بها مجتهد "Bringing in procedures for worship that were not stated by the mujtahid."[3] But if this amalgamation is not in one series
