- For a Muslim, achieving the night of Lailatul Qadar is one of the most coveted things during the month of Ramadan. However, what are the morning and evening signs of Lailatul Qadar actually like?
Quoted from the book '10 Final Nights of Ramadhan' by Shabri Shaleh Anwar, it is explained that Lailatul Qadar is a night that is a secret for Muslims. This is because no one knows for sure when the night of Lailatul Qadar will occur. However, Muhammad bin Al Mutsanna told Khalid bin Al Harith to Humaid to Anas from 'Ubadah bin Ash-Shamit that a hadith conveyed:
"The Prophet SAW came out to tell us about Lailatul Qadar. Suddenly there were two people from the Muslims who contradicted him. Finally he said, 'I have come to tell you about the time of Lailatul Qadar. However, so and so and so and so refuted me so that the certainty of the time was removed (became unknown). However, hopefully this incident will be good for you, so look for it on the ninth, seventh and fifth nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan" (HR. Bukhari Number 1883).
Even though no one knows when the night of Lailatul Qadar will arrive except Allah SWT, there are several signs that Muslims can understand. It is hoped that knowing the signs of the night of Lailatul Qadar can be a way for every Muslim to be more serious in maximizing their worship of Allah SWT.
So what are the signs of the night of Lailatul Qadar? The following are a number of signs for the night of Lailatul Qadar, accompanied by prayer readings and examples from the Prophet Muhammad.
Signs of the Night of Lailatul Qadar
Regarding the signs of the night of Lailatul Qadar, it is explained in several hadiths. As stated in the book 'Complete Guide to Fasting Ramadhan According to the Qur'an and Sunnah' compiled by Abu Ubaidah Yusuf bin Mukhtar as-Sidawi and Abu Abdillah Syahrul Fatwa bin Lukman, there are two signs of the night of Lailatul Qadar which may appear in morning and evening.
The morning sign on the night of Lailatul Qadr says the Sun will look white, but not dazzle. This is in line with a history from Ubay bin Ka'ab who said:
وَأَمَارَتُهَا أَنْ تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ فِي صَبِيحَةِ يَوْمِهَا بَ يْضَاءَ لَا شُعَاعَ لَهَا
"In the morning, the night of Lailatul Qadar, the sun rose white, not dazzling" (HR. Muslim).
Meanwhile, there are also signs of the night of Lailatul Qadar which is expected to occur that evening. If in the morning the Sun looks white but not dazzling, it is different at night which looks bright and beautiful. It is also said that the air does not feel cold or hot.
This is in line with what is conveyed in the hadith narrated by Ibn Abbas, as follows:
لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ لَيْلَةُ سَمْحَةٌ طَلْقَةُ لَا حَارَّةٌ وَلَا God willing
Meaning: "Lailatul Qadar is a beautiful night, bright, neither hot nor cold. The next day the sun's light becomes reddish" (HR. ath-Thayalisi, Ibnu Khuzaimah, al-Bazzar. Hasan).
Meanwhile, it is mentioned in the book 'Secrets of the Power of 12 Impossible Times to Pray' by Nurhasanah Namin S.Ag. that there are at least four signs of the night of Lailatul Qadar that Muslims can recognize. The following are the signs in question:
Stronger Light Beam
If previously it was said that the signs of the night of Lailatul Qadar were bright and beautiful, this time there are other signs in the form of rays of light that look stronger than most nights. However, these rays of light can only be felt by Muslims who live or are on land or in locations far from the light source.
Peace of Mind
Furthermore, there are signs of the night of Lailatul Qadar which will be felt by Muslims who succeed in achieving it. It is said that they will feel spaciousness and calm in their hearts.
The wind feels cool
Then, the wind on the night of Lailatul Qadar is also said to feel cool. It is described that on the night of Lailatul Qadar the wind tends to be calm. It didn't even make a roaring sound like the strong winds that usually come at night.
Achieving the Enjoyment of Worship
The next sign of the night of Lailatul Qadar that a Muslim can feel is the enjoyment of worship, especially when performing evening prayers. It is said that anyone who performs prayers on the night of Lailatul Qadar will experience greater pleasure than on other nights in general.
Then it is also mentioned in the book 'Encyclopedia of Hadiths for Fasting, Zakat and Hajj' by Syamsul Rijal Hamid which comes from the history of a hadith. It is said through this hadith, Rasulullah SAW said:
"The night of Lailatul Qadar is a clear night, not cold and not hot. Not cloudy and not raining. There is no wind and no stars. Then, the sign in the morning that the sun rises does not shine, it only looks bright white, but not hot." (HR. Thabrani, from Watsilah r.a.).
Even though the signs of the night of Lailatul Qadar can be a reference for Muslims to get an idea of the presence of this glorious night, it is recommended for them not to focus too much on looking for the night of Lailatul Qadar. On the other hand, Muslims are advised to strengthen their worship of Allah SWT.
One of them is by imitating the Prophet SAW in welcoming the arrival of Lailatul Qadar night. Conveyed in the book 'Inspiration for Ramadhan' by H. Brilly El-Rasheed, S.Pd., there is a hadith which tells that Rasulullah SAW did not look for signs of the night of Lailatul Qadar.
Instead of focusing too much on finding out when the night of Lailatul Qadar would arrive, Rasulullah SAW actually increased his worship practices. This is in line with a hadith narrated by Aisyah RA:
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ هَا قَالَتْ : - كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا دَخَلَ ا message ُ, وَأَحْيَا لَيْلَهُ, وَأَيْقَظَ أَهْلَهُ - مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ
Meaning: "From 'Aisyah, he said, 'The Messenger of Allah used to enter the last 10 Ramadhan, he was serious about worship (by leaving his wives), enlivening those nights with worship, and waking up his wives to worship'. " (HR. Bukhari and Muslim).
Lailatul Qadar Evening Prayer
Apart from increasing his worship, Rasulullah SAW also spent the night of Lailatul Qadar with lots of prayers. There is a prayer that he usually practices. Summarized from the book 'Ramadan Guide Provisions for Achieving a Ramadhan Full of Blessings' by Ruhyat Ahmad, there is a hadith narrated by Aisyah RA that Rasulullah SAW recommended a prayer to be practiced on the night of Lailatul Qadar.
As narrated by Aisyah RA:
"Tell me, O Messenger of Allah, what would you think, if I knew that one night was Laylatul Qadr. What would I say in it? He answered, 'Say, Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu anni, which means, O Allah, verily you are the most forgiving, the most noble who loves apologies, forgive me'." (HR. Tirmidhi, Ibnu Majah, Ahmad) .
For Muslims who want to practice the Lailatul Qadar evening prayer, here is the complete reading:
God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing.
"Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu anni."
Meaning: "O Allah, indeed You are Forgiving, Most Noble, who loves apologies, forgive me."
That is the summary of the explanation regarding the signs of the night of Lailatul Qadar along with the prayer readings and how to imitate the Prophet SAW regarding that night. Hopefully this information helps.
