Jakarta -
Google just updated the distribution figures for individual Android versions shared in Android Studio. This latest data also shows which version of Android is currently most widely used.

According to the Gizchina report, this Android distribution data was just updated on October 1, 2023, just a few days before Android 14 was officially released. This data shows that Android 13 is the most popular version with an installation rate of 22.4% on all Android devices worldwide.
This figure shows a quite significant spike for Android 13, which has been circulating for more than a year. The reason is that last May, the Android 13 installation rate was 15%, an increase of 7.4% in four months.

The high adoption rate for Android 13 is likely influenced by the increasing number of devices that are immediately available running Android 13, and many cheap Android cellphones that have been upgraded to the operating system.

Below Android 13, there is Android 11 which is the second most popular version. Even though it is three years old, Android 11 is still used on 21.6% of Android devices.
The popularity of Android 11 is likely due to the large number of users who have not updated the operating system on their cellphones to Android 12, or perhaps have not upgraded to a newer cellphone.
In third position is Android 10 which has a market share of 16.1%, followed by Android 12 in fourth position with a market share of 15.8%, as quoted from Android Authority, Wednesday (1/11/2023).
Android 9, which is five years old, still remains in fifth position with an installation rate of 10.5%. Next there is Android 8.1 which has a market share of 5.4%.
Distribution rates of other legacy versions of Android are in the range of 1%. Because this old operating system no longer has support from Google, the numbers will likely continue to fall as users choose to upgrade to newer phones.
