Jakarta - The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated that the European Union supports Israel, which is now in major conflict with Hamas Palestine. He condemned Hamas' attacks on Israel.

"The European Union supports Israel," tweeted Ursula von der Leyen on her official X account (formerly known as Twitter), @vonderleyen, October 8, accessed by detikcom on Monday (9/10/2023).
"Today, Hamas has struck at the heart of Israel, capturing and killing innocent women and children," he wrote.

As reported by AFP, to date, more than 700 people on the Israeli side have died as a result of the latest Israeli vs Palestinian conflict. That figure is based on the Israeli military. Meanwhile, Gaza officials stated that 400 people had been killed on the Palestinian Hamas side as a result of Israeli air attacks.

According to Ursula, Israel's actions in attacking Palestinian areas were correct. You see, it was an act of self-defense.
"Israel has the right to defend itself - today and forever," he wrote.
However, Ursula's statement that 'the European Union supports Israel' was criticized by other X accounts. The Twitter account belonging to a member of the European Parliament from Ireland, Clare Daly, stated that Ursula had no right to speak like that because decisions on the European Union's position must be taken via the European Union Council (EU Council).
"Who do you think you are? You are not elected, and have no authority to determine the EU's foreign policy, which is determined by the European Council. Europe does not 'support Israel'. We support peace. You do not speak for us. If you don't have anything constructive to say, it's best to shut up, keep your mouth shut," Clare Daly tweeted.

"Anda pikir Anda siapa?
