Water-fueled Vehicles, Elon Musk: Stupid and Nonsense
- Tesla's CEO Elon Musk called the invention of Nikuba by Aryanto Misel stupid.
He made fun of the findings from Indonesian sons.
He said that changing hydrogen as a vehicle engine fuel was ridiculous.
Elon Musk said that the development of technology to convert water into machine energy is ridiculous.

He said, hydrogen is far different from fuels such as from fossil energy and some renewable sources of electricity.
Before being used as fuel, it takes a long and very complicated process to convert hydrogen from water.
- The debate about whether water is converted into hydrogen and then used as fuel in the engine bay of a motorized vehicle with the name of a tool called Nikuba, has been surfacing since the last few days in Indonesia.
Converting water into energy has been controversial for a long time. In fact, not only in Indonesia, but also still being debated in many countries.
Although abundant, so far water has not been developed en masse as energy. According to many scientists, the reason is that converting water into hydrogen requires many processes.
So converting water into hydrogen to be used as fuel is considered a waste. The reason is that the energy used to convert hydrogen is far greater than the energy that is then produced.
On several occasions, Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, even often makes fun of hydrogen as a vehicle engine fuel.
Like in June 2020, via his Twitter account, Elon Musk said that the development of technology to convert water into machine energy was ridiculous.

He said, hydrogen is far different from fuels such as from fossil energy and some renewable sources of electricity.

Just so you know, hydrogen or the compound H2 is arguably very abundant on earth. However, because hydrogen is a very light gas, the earth's gravity is unable to attract its molecules, so that eventually more hydrogen evaporates and is trapped in the earth's atmosphere.
That's why, in the case of a hot air balloon filled with hydrogen gas, it will immediately soar into the air because it is not affected by Earth's gravity.
At the earth's surface, much of the hydrogen that does not evaporate upwards is trapped with oxygen or O2. These two elements then form water or H2O.
Elon Musk also mentioned how inefficient it is to make hydrogen as engine fuel at the event held by the Financial Times in May 2022.
According to Elon Musk, to make hydrogen as fuel, it takes a lot of money to separate it from oxygen in water.
"That's not a process that occurs naturally on earth. To get hydrogen, you have to separate it from water by means of electrolysis or the breakdown of hydrocarbons," said Elon Musk.
"When you do a process of breaking down hydrocarbons, you haven't really solved the problem of using fossil fuels. This is because electrolysis (separating carbon) is a bad idea," he added.
He explained, the facts that have existed so far, the process of separating hydrogen from water to then be used as fuel actually uses a relatively large amount of electricity.
Where most of the electricity currently comes from fossil energy. What's more, the electricity consumed is far greater than the hydrogen produced, aka the size of the pegs than the poles.
That's why, Elon Musk says, hydrogen is not a solution to replace fossil fuels in the future.
Elon Musk argues, instead of people dreaming of using hydrogen from water as engine fuel, it is better to develop more green energy that is more realistic to then use as a more efficient source of electricity such as solar, wind, and so on.
"Efficient electrolysis? That's a bad thing. So you spend more energy separating the hydrogen and oxygen. Then from the hydrogen being converted to energy, it also takes energy again," Elon Musk told the Financial Times.
"If you have to separate hydrogen from water, oh my God. The amount of energy that goes into making hydrogen to convert into a liquid form is ridiculous. This is the stupidest thing I can imagine in the law of energy storage," he added.

Ia menyebut, hidrogen jauh berbeda dengan bahan bakar seperti dari energi fosil maupun beberapa sumber tenaga listrik terbarukan.
Sebelum dijadikan bahan bakar, butuh proses yang panjang dan sangat rumit untuk mengubah hidrogen dari air.
- Perdebatan mengenai apakah air yang diubah menjadi hidrogen untuk kemudian dijadikan bahan bakar di ruang mesin kendaraan bermotor dengan nama alat bernama Nikuba, tengah mengemuka sejak beberapa hari terakhir di Tanah Air.
Air yang diubah menjadi energi memang jadi kontroversi sejak lama. Sejatinya tak hanya di Indonesia, namun juga masih menjadi perdebatan di banyak negara.
Meski melimpah, sejauh ini air belum dikembangkan secara massal sebagai energi. Menurut banyak ilmuan, alasannya mengubah air menjadi hidrogen perlu banyak proses.
Sehingga mengubah air menjadi hidrogen untuk dipakai sebagai bahan bakar dinilai justru sebagai pemborosan. Alasannya, energi yang dipakai untuk mengkonversi hidrogen jauh lebih besar dibandingkan energi yang kemudian dihasilkan.
Dalam beberapa kesempatan, CEO Tesla, Elon Musk, bahkan kerap kali mengolok-ngolok hidrogen sebagai bahan bakar mesin kendaraan.
Seperti pada Juni 2020 silam, melalui akun Twitterya, Elon Musk menyebut kalau pengembangan teknologi mengubah air jadi energi mesin adalah hal konyol.

Untuk diketahui saja, hidrogen atau senyawa H2 bisa dibilang sangat melimpah di bumi. Namun karena hidrogen adalah gas yang sangat ringan, gravitasi bumi tak mampu menarik molekul-molekuknya, sehingga akhirnya hidrogen lebih banyak menguap dan terperangkap di atmoster bumi.
Itu sebabnya, dalam kasus balon udara yang diisi dengan gas hidrogen, akan langsung melayang ke udara karena tidak terpengaruh gravitasi bumi.
Di permukaan bumi, hidrogen yang tidak menguap ke atas banyak terperangkap bersama oksigen atau O2. Kedua unsur ini kemudian membentuk air atau H2O.
Elon Musk juga kembali menyinggung betapa tidak efisiennya menjadikan hidrogen sebagai bahan bakar mesin di acara yang diselenggarakan Financial Times pada Mei 2022 lalu.
Menurut Elon Musk, untuk menjadikan hidrogen sebagai bahan bakar, perlu biaya yang tidak sedikit guna memisahkannya dengan oksigen pada air.
"Itu bukan proses yang terjadi secara alami di bumi. Untuk mendapatkan hidrogen, Anda harus memisahkannya dari air dengan cara elektrolisis atau pemecahan hidrokarbon," papar Elon Musk.
"Saat Anda melakukan proses pemecahan hidrokarbon, Anda belum benar-benar memecahkan masalah penggunaan bahan bakar fosil. Ini karena proses elektrolisis (memisahkan karbon) merupakan ide buruk," tambah dia.
Ia menjelaskan, fakta yang ada selama ini, proses memisahkan hidrogen dari air untuk kemudian dijadikan bahan bakar justru menggunakan listrik yang terbilang besar.
Di mana listrik tersebut saat ini kebanyakan berasal dari energi fosil. Terlebih, listrik yang dihabiskan jauh lebih besar dibandingkan hidrogen yang dihasilkan alias besar pasak daripada tiang.
Itu sebabnya, Elon Musk bilang, hidrogen bukan solusi untuk menggantikan bahan bakar fosil di masa depan.
Elon Musk berargumen, ketimbang orang-orang bermimpi menggunakan hidrogen dari air sebagai bahan bakar mesin, lebih baik mengembangkan lebih banyak energi hijau yang lebih realistis untuk kemudian dijadikan sumber listrik yang lebih efisen seperti tenaga surya, angin, dan sebagainya.
"Efisien elektrolisis? Itu hal yang buruk. Jadi Anda menghabiskan lebih banyak energi untuk memisahkan hidrogen dan oksigen. Kemudian dari hidrogen diubah jadi energi, itu juga butuh energi lagi," kata Elon Musk kepada Financial Times.
"Jika Anda harus memisahkan hidrogen dari air, ya Tuhan. Jumlah energi yang dipakai untuk membuat hidrogen untuk diubah menjadi bentuk cair sangat tidak masuk akal. Ini adalah hal paling bodoh yang bisa saya bayangkan dalam hukum penyimpanan energi," imbuh dia.
