Kevin Mitnick, The Most Hunted Legendary Hacker Dies
- Kevin Mitnick, the most wanted legendary hacker or hacker in the United States, has died at the age of 59.
The man breathed his last on July 16 after battling pancreatic cancer for 14 months. Mitnick battled the disease and underwent treatment at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).
Mitnick's name was so popular in the 1980s and 1990s, especially because of his hacking actions. He has been hacking since a young age.
In 1981, he was accused of stealing computer manuals from Pacific Bell, a company that provided telephone services in California. At the same time, this man also often steals company data to break into credit card data.
According to the records of the security company Kaspersky, Mitnick even hacked the North American Defense Command (NORAD) system in 1982. Kaspersky also ranked Kevin Mitnick as the most famous hacker of all time.
In 1989, Mitnick had hacked into the network of Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), one of the pioneers in the computer industry and made copies of their software.
This action made Mitnick one of the people wanted by the police. He was later arrested and imprisoned. During his parole, he hacked Pacific Bell's voicemail system.
In 1995, Mitnick became wanted by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and was arrested for various digital crimes. In 1999 he also pleaded guilty to various crimes, including computer fraud.
Mitnick's fame has also earned him the nickname "the most famous hacker" in the world. After being held captive for five years, Mitnick is free and is back to living his life, but as a speaker, writer and cybersecurity expert.
He was also briefly banned from using any form of computer for three years since his release, although he was eventually allowed to operate the device again.
In 2003, Mitnick founded Mitnick Security Consulting as a security consultant for various companies and government agencies. He has also written a number of books including the memoir, Ghost in the Wires which details his life and criminal adventures.
Now the most famous hacker has died after struggling with pancreatic cancer, the same disease that claimed the lives of Apple founder Steve Jobs, Shuttle astronaut Sally Ride to microprocessor pioneer Victor Poor.
The legendary hacker left his wife, Kimberley, who was pregnant with Mitnick's son.
"Kevin Mitnick wasted his life into a life span that was too short before his time," said the announcement of Mitnick's death, which at the same time confirmed the death of the famous hacker, quoted by KompasTekno from Gizmodo.
"Kevin will remain the most famous hacker in the world, and is known for the intelligence, humor and extraordinary expertise for technology, which only his talent as a 'social engineer' can achieve," said a statement by KnowBe4, a half-owned security consulting firm. Mitnick.

We had an immediate E1, 2Mbps connection (very fast dedicated bandwidth Internet Connection) and Audart.com was born and brought 3000 people to our first Art Exhibition “The Urban Frontier” at AUDART… The Ant-Gallery an abandoned Dresdner Bank that went out after Black Monday the crash of 1987. We were now in 1996 and rocking the New York Artworld, and had one of the worlds first wireless T1 lines connecting us to the world. It was our art shows that was the content the new art world of the nineties wanted, but it was the connectivity that got us seen world wide. Good or bad it’s hard to say but it was these two famous hackers that took us under their wings and put us #1 in the contemporary art world. Not a museum director in New York would miss an exhibition opening at AUDART. And our Ten Years After… The Warhol Factory and The Art & Technology Circus shows each drew crowds of 10,000 opening nights.
