- Former President of the United States (US) Donald Trump was arrested after arriving at the New York court building where he will be tried on dozens of charges related to paying hush money. This is the first time in US history that a former president will face criminal charges.

Trump arrived at the courthouse in Lower Manhattan in a presidential motorcade from Trump Tower in Midtown, where he was staying. He is expected to be notified he is under arrest, fingerprinted and processed prior to arraignment. Trump is expected to enter a not guilty plea. "Looks SO REAL - WOW, they're going to CATCH ME. Can't believe this is happening in America," Trump said in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, which was published as he arrived at the courthouse as reported by NBC News, Wednesday (5 /4/2023).
The legal troubles, media scrutiny and reckless hiding of hush money for the porn star at the heart of this case is a new chapter for the New York tycoon.
High levels of security were in place at the courthouse and surrounding area as police, bailiffs and the Secret Service prepared for a protest action amid the unprecedented impeachment of the former president. The judge had banned TV cameras inside the courtroom, but ruled in favor of a few photographers, who would take historic pictures that are likely to make the front pages of newspapers, in election season ads and in future history books.
According to two sources, Trump will face about 30 counts of fraudulent documents related to paying bribes during the 2016 presidential campaign. Prosecutors' investigations centered on hush money payments made ahead of the 2016 election to two women who claimed to have had affairs with Trump. Trump has denied the affair and done anything wrong.
