Steps to Lead the Heart Back to Its Way
Steps to Lead the Heart Back to Its Way
The heart is the core of a human being. Because, human thoughts, speech, and behavior are determined by the condition of his heart. In fact, often our various problems and life choices also arise from within our hearts. Remembering how we as humans act according to our heart's content, of course it is important to understand how to guide and soften the heart.
As a problem that is so important to humans. This is proven from the verses of the Qur'an which discuss matters of the heart. There are 131 verses of the Qur'an that touch on matters of the heart. Because the problem of the heart is complicated enough for a servant of God to solve.
"How can it not be complicated? The nature of the heart is to turn and can go back and forth," explained Kang Yazid. Kang Yazid then compared the human heart to a bottle that can be filled and emptied. He explained that the heart is flexible, like a bottle that can be filled and emptied, as well as molded and conditioned. If we condition our hearts to be hard, then we become arrogant people who are also stubborn.
"On the other hand, if we soften our hearts, God willing, then the way we respond to everything in the world will be better and we will become more sincere people," he said. However, even though the human heart is very easy to condition, softening the heart cannot be done if we ourselves do not get permission and blessing from the Creator.
"Because back to the essence, the ruler of our hearts is Allah SWT," said Kang Yazid. So to have a soft heart and high sincerity, it needs the will of the Creator to get it. Therefore, some important steps that can be taken to guide our hearts back to Allah SWT, are as follows:
1. Endeavor
The first step to guiding the heart to the right path can be started by making an effort or by trying hard and earnestly. This effort also needs to be accompanied by a strong intention to further strengthen the good wishes we have.
2. Tawakal
After trying, the next step is to believe in the good decisions and paths given by Allah SWT. In this step, we must throw away all negative thoughts that burden us, such as “What if the result is like this? What if I fail?”.
3. Be aware of deficiencies
Recognizing the shortcomings may be difficult to do. Especially when we really want something. However, being aware of deficiencies or things that are far from our power is very important to be able to soften the heart.
4. Receive
After being aware of the shortcomings that we have, the next step is to accept deficiencies or things that are beyond our control with a sincere feeling. This step is very possible to do with repentance to Allah SWT.
5. Surrender
In the last step, we are encouraged to surrender everything that exists to Allah SWT. This step is what Kang Yazid calls surrender, which is the closing step that can be done after we have made an effort, put our trust in, realized and accepted our shortcomings.
At the end of the study session, Kang Yazid also explained the attitude of purification known as tazkiyah. The attitude of purification itself is done by instilling good qualities in us, such as sincerity, patience, and trustworthiness. Apart from cleansing the heart, tazkiyah is also believed to bring good luck to those who do it. This is also confirmed by Allah SWT through Surah Asy-Shams verses 8-10, which reads:
فَاَلۡهَمَهَا فُجُوۡرَهَا وَتَقۡوٰٮهَا قَدۡ اَفۡلَحَ مَنۡ زَكّٰٮهَا وَقَدۡ خَابَ مَنۡ دَسّٰٮهَا
It means:
"So Allah inspired to that soul (potential) ungodliness and piety. Truly lucky are those who purify their souls, and losers are those who defile their souls.
