2024 Presidential Election Predicted To Be Followed By 3 Candidate Pairs, Two Of Them Are Supported By The Government's Camp

Adi Prayitno, a political observer at the Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN), predicts that there will be a maximum of three pairs of candidates (paslon) in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres).

If there are only two candidate pairs, then the government versus the opposition side will be filled. It could also be the faction of the government facing each other.

If there are three pairs of candidates, it is very likely that two of them will be filled by the candidate pairs supported by the government.

“Could the Gerindra and PDI-P coalition go head to head with the opposition (Coalition) for Change, which carries Anies Baswedan. Or a head to head scenario between government groups, that's how it is. It could be Ganjar versus Prabowo Subianto, yes. That's the most likely one," Adi said when interviewed by Kompas.com, Saturday (25/2/2023).

Adi continued, if Anies is to run for the 2024 presidential election, the candidate pairs that are promoted by political parties to fight Anies must be those with high electability.

Even so, Adi conveyed, the political conditions in Indonesia in carrying the name of the 2024 Presidential Election are currently still very dynamic.

"Certainly those who are being carried are big names, names that have high electability, yes maybe Ganjar, maybe also Prabowo," said the man.

"Approximately so (the prediction) because it is still quite fluid and quite dynamic," he concluded.

In January 2023, a Kompas Research and Development survey showed that Ganjar Pranowo, Prabowo Subianto and Anies Baswedan were still the presidential candidates with the highest electability.

Kompas.com reported, Wednesday (22/2/2023), Ganjar was in first place with an electability rate of 25.3 percent.

Meanwhile, Prabowo was in second place with an electability of 18.1 percent, followed by Anies in third place with 13.1 percent.

Taking place from 25 January 2023 to 4 February 2023, the survey by Kompas Research and Development involved 1,202 respondents from 38 provinces.
