The Papuan Catholic Lay Scholars Association must appear different and have weight

– Bishop of Jayapura Msgr. Yanuarius Theofilus Matopai You, Pr inaugurated the management of the Papuan Catholic Lay Scholars Association or ICAKAP, chaired by Geraldus Bidana. S.Pd.M.Pd at the Waena Christ the Light of the World Catholic Church, Heram District, Jayapura City Papua on Friday (5/4/2024).
In his speech, Bishop Yanuarius asked all the management of the Papuan Catholic Lay Scholars Association (ICAKAP) to appear with different qualities, dare to fight for the values of truth and justice, and be proactive in seeking the common good in the Land of Papua (bonum commune).
"The Papuan Catholic Lay Scholars Association must appear different and have weight, always be taken into account and always fight for justice and the common good or bonum commune," he said.
Bishop Yanuarius also hopes that ICAKAP administrators will have the courage to appear in preaching the gospel of the kingdom of heaven or proclaiming faith in the risen Jesus, as did the Apostles without any fear and trepidation of the powers of this world. Based on the Gospel of John 21:1-14 regarding the incident when the Lord Jesus appeared to His disciples at Lake Tiberias.
“You must also have the courage to fight for truth and justice, not be a coward. If in doubt back away. "Because believing in the risen Lord Jesus must produce the fruit of resurrection with concrete actions," he said.
Bishop Yanuarius also advised the ICAKAP administrators to continue to maintain the principles or values of truth which were taught by Jesus Christ as the teacher of truth himself. As written in Mark 8:34, everyone who wants to follow Jesus must deny himself, take up His cross, and follow the example of Jesus Christ.
“Never back down when there is a threat. Because there will be many risks for those of us who want to fight for the truth. As experienced by the Apostles, they were brought to justice when they performed healing miracles. Remember Jesus' message: "Everyone who wants to come after Me must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me," he said.
Bishop Yan You hopes that IKACAP will become agents of the Faith in the Land of Papua who continue to voice the values of truth and justice in the land of Cenderawasih.
“I hope that IKACAP will become an accomplice of Jesus and through the mouths of the Apostles, they will proclaim the news of Jesus' resurrection. Meanwhile, the other apostles were afraid, lost, ran away because the God they loved was cruelly tortured and murdered. "Jesus' efforts to appear repeatedly were to convince the Apostles so that they would believe and dare to proclaim the truth of the faith until Pentecost," he said. (*)

Jayapura, Jubi – Uskup Jayapura Mgr. Yanuarius Theofilus Matopai You, Pr melantik kepengurusan Ikatan Cendekiawan Awam Katolik Papua atau ICAKAP yang diketuai oleh Geraldus Bidana. S.Pd.M.Pd di Gereja Katolik Kristus Terang Dunia Waena, Distrik Heram, Kota Jayapura Papua Pada Jumat (5/4/2024).
Dalam sambutannya, Uskup Yanuarius meminta kepada seluruh jajaran pengurus Ikatan Cendekiawan Awam Katolik Papua (ICAKAP) untuk harus tampil dengan kualitas yang berbeda, berani memperjuangkan nilai kebenaran dan keadilan, serta proaktif mengupayakan kebaikan bersama di Tanah Papua (bonum commune).
“Ikatan Cendekiawan awam Katolik Papua harus tampil beda dan berbobot, yang selalu diperhitungkan serta selalu memperjuangkan keadilan dan kebaikan bersama atau bonum commune,”katanya.
Uskup Yanuarius juga berharap pengurus ICAKAP berani tampil dalam pemberitaan injil kerajaan surga atau mewartakan iman akan Yesus yang bangkit, seperti yang dilakukan oleh Para Rasul tanpa ada rasa takut dan gentar akan kuasa dunia ini. Dengan berlandaskan pada Injil Yohanes 21:1-14 mengenai peristiwa Tuhan Yesus menampakkan dirinya kepada murid-murid-Nya di Danau Tiberias.
“Juga harus berani perjuangkan kebenaran dan keadilan, bukan pengecut. Kalau ragu-ragu mundur. Karena percaya pada TUHAN Yesus yang bangkit harus menghasilkan buah kebangkitan dengan tindakan nyata,” ujarnya.
Uskup Yanuarius juga berpesan kepada para pengurus ICAKAP agar tetap mempertahan prinsip-prinsip atau nilai-nilai kebenaran yang mana telah diajarkan Yesus Kristus sebagai sang guru kebenaran itu sendiri. Seperti yang tertulis dalam Markus 8:34 bahwa setiap orang yang mau mengikuti Yesus ia harus menyangkal dirinya, memikul salib-Nya, dan mengikuti teladan Yesus Kristus.
“Jangan pernah mundur bilamana ada ancaman. Sebab akan banyak resiko bagi kita yang mau perjuangkan kebenaran. Seperti yang dialami Para Rasul, mereka dibawa ke pengadilan saat melakukan mujizat penyembuhan. Ingat pesan Yesus: “Setiap orang yang mau mengikut Aku, ia harus menyangkal dirinya memikul salibnya, dan mengikut Aku,”katanya.
Uskup Yan You berharap para IKACAP untuk menjadi kaki tangan Iman di Tanah Papua yang terus menyuarakan nilai-nilai kebenaran dan keadilan di bumi Cenderawasih.
“Saya berharap IKACAP menjadi kaki tangan Yesus dan Melalui mulut Para Rasul, mereka mewartakan kabar kebangkitan Yesus. Sementara rasul lain takut, hilang, kabur karena Tuhan yang mereka cintai disiksa dan dibunuh secara keji. Upaya Yesus yang menampakkan diri berulang kali adalah untuk mau meyakinkan Para Rasul, supaya mereka percaya dan berani mewartakan kebenaran iman sampai peristiwa Pentakosta,”ujarnya. (*)
