Do Wet Dreams during the Day Cancel Fasting? This is the MUI's explanation
- Limited body energy when fasting often makes people choose to take a nap as an alternative to fighting hunger.
There are many things that can happen when we take a nap, one of which is wet dreams.
Wet dreams that occur during the day in the month of Ramadan often cause confusion as to whether it is permissible to continue fasting or not.
A wet dream is a term for an orgasm that occurs accidentally while someone is sleeping and dreaming.
This condition can trigger the release of semen or sperm in men, as well as vaginal fluid in women.
Meanwhile, one of the things that can break fasting is the release of semen.
So, can wet dreams during the day break the fast? What is the law?

Law of Wet Dreams during Fasting
Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Anwar Abbas explained that wet dreams during the day in the month of Ramadan do not invalidate fasting.
"If it was really a dream and happened while we were fasting, then this event does not invalidate the fast," explained Anawar.
The discharge of semen due to wet dreams is caused by accident, so fasting can still be continued.
It's different if semen comes out as a result of intentional actions, such as masturbation or contact with the opposite sex, then it can invalidate the fast.
However, Anwar continued, people who experience wet dreams while fasting must take a mandatory bath or junub bath.
"Those who dream of course have to take a mandatory bath because that is what is stipulated in Islamic teachings," explained Anwar.
Purity of hadas is actually not a condition for valid fasting, but rather a condition for valid prayer. Therefore, bathing junub aims so that the person can pray.
"Yes, it's clear because if he doesn't take the obligatory bath then his prayer is invalid because he doesn't do it in a pure state," said Anwar.
Procedures for Bathing Junub
Quoted from the Ministry of Religion page, there are two pillars that must be carried out when carrying out a junub bath, namely:
1. Intention
According to the Shafi'i school of thought, the intention must be made when water is first poured on the body. The reading for the intention to take a junub bath or obligatory bath is as follows:
Nawaitul ghusla lirafil ?adatsil akbari minal jinaabati fardlan lillaahi ta'ala.
This intention means, "I intend to bathe to remove large hadas from janabah, fardhu for Allah ta'ala."
2. Flush all over the body
When taking a mandatory bath, the entire outer part of the body must be covered with water, including the hair and feathers.
For parts of the body that have hair, the water must be able to flow down to the skin and the base of the hair, so that the body does not become unclean.
Apart from rukun, there are sunnah things that can be done when carrying out a junub bath.
This is as expressed by Imam al-Ghazali in the book Bidayatul Hidayah, including:
Wash your hands up to three times
Clean all dirt or uncleanness that is still stuck to the body
Ablution perfectly
Sprinkle your head three times, at the same time carrying out the intention to remove large hadas
Sprinkle the right side of your body three times, then continue with the left side of your body three times
Rub your body, front and back, three times
Trimming hair and beard (if you have one)
Drains water into the folds of the skin and the base of the hair
It is best to avoid touching your genitals with your hands, if they touch it, it is better to perform ablution again.
Apakah Mimpi Basah di Siang Hari Membatalkan Puasa? Begini Penjelasan MUI

Tata Cara Mandi Junub
Nawaitul ghusla lirafil ?adatsil akbari minal jinaabati fardlan lillaahi ta'ala.
Membasuh tangan hingga tiga kali
Menggosok-gosok tubuh, depan maupun belakang, sebanyak tiga kali
