Jika seorang individu selalu beramal saleh dengan menjalankan perintah Allah dan menjauhi larangannya maka akan diperlakukan dengan baik. Sebaliknya, jika individu tersebut banyak berbuat dosa semasa di dunia maka akan mendapat siksa kubur.

Terkait siksa kubur ini ada kaitannya dengan Ular Syuja'ul Aqra. Ular ini diperintahkan oleh Allah untuk menyiksa setiap umat manusia yang tidak menjalankan perintah sholat lima waktu.
Perintah sholat lima waktu dalam muslim sendiri telah tercantum dalam Rukun Iman, sehingga wajib untuk dilakukan. Setiap orang yang tidak menjalankannya dengan sengaja maka akan mendapat dosa besar.
Dalam buku "Yang Bangkrut dan Yang Untung di Alam Kubur" oleh Al-Hafizh Taqiyuddin al-Jurjani, dijelaskan jika Ular Syuja’ul Aqra memiliki dua bola mata dari api, kuku-kuku-nya dari besi, dan panjang tiap kuku sejauh perjalanan satu hari.
Disebutkan juga jika ular tersebut akan secara terus-menerus menyiksa seseorang dengan mengatakan kalimat "Akulah Syuja'ul Aqra".
Ular tersebut juga akan mengatakan alasan mengapa dirinya melakukan penyiksaan pada seseorang. Seperti "Aku diperintahkan oleh Tuhanku untuk
menghukummu atas kelakuanmu yang menunda-nunda dan meninggalkan Sholat".
Tidak hanya itu, ular ini nantinya juga akan langsung menembuskan ekornya dari dubur sampai ke mulut manusia yang sengaja meninggalkan sholat wajib. Kemudian, manusia tersebut dililit dan diempaskannya ke bumi. Hancur jasadnya sampai berkeping-keping dengan kedalaman sampai 7 kilometer.
