- Rasulullah SAW is said to have met a number of previous prophets in every layer of the sky. Lastly, he met a prophet who was in the seventh heaven.
The story of the Prophet Muhammad SAW's encounter with previous prophets took place during Isra Mi'raj, a holy journey from the Grand Mosque to the Aqsa Mosque and continuing to Sidratul Muntaha in the seventh heaven.
According to a hadith contained in the book al-Isra' wa al-Mi'raj by Ibnu Hajar al-Asqalani and Imam as-Suyuthi translated by Arya Noor Amarsyah, Rasulullah SAW performed the Isra Mi'raj accompanied by the Angel Gabriel.
When he ascended to the seventh heaven, the angel Gabriel asked that the gates of heaven be opened. The gatekeeper of the seventh heaven then asked, "Who are you?"
Jibril answered, "I am Jibril."
The gatekeeper of heaven asked, "Who is with you?"
Jibril answered, "Muhammad."
The gatekeeper to heaven asked again, "Was he sent (to go up to Allah)?"
Jibril answered, "He was indeed sent (to go up to Allah)."
So the door to the seventh heaven was opened and Prophet Muhammad SAW met Prophet Ibrahim AS who was leaning his back against Baitul Ma'mur. Baitul Ma'mur is known as the Kaaba of the people of the sky. That is where the heavenly angels worship every day.
This fragment of the story of the Isra Mi'raj of the Prophet Muhammad SAW was narrated by Imam Muslim from Syaiban ibn Farukh, from Hamad ibn Salamah, from Thabit al-Banani, from Anas ibn Malik RA who told it from Rasulullah SAW. According to Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani, this is the strongest hadith and is free from disputes.
The figure of Prophet Ibrahim AS, the Khalilullah who is in the Seventh Heaven
Prophet Ibrahim AS is the 6th prophet in the order of 25 prophets and messengers that Muslims must know. Mentioned in Imam Ibnu Kathir's Qashash al-Anbiyaa, translated by Umar Mujtahid, the full name of Prophet Ibrahim AS is Ibrahim bin Tarikh bin Nahur bin Sarugh bin Raghu bin Faligh bin Abir bin Salih bin Arfakhsyadz bin Sam bin Nuh.
According to the history told by Ibn Asakir, Prophet Ibrahim AS was born in Ghauthah, Damascus, in a village called Barazah, in the Qasiun mountains. This place is a high mountain overlooking Damascus City.
Prophet Ibrahim AS received the nickname Khalilullah which means God's Beloved or Beloved of God. Allah SWT says in surah An Nisa verse 125,
Meaning: "Who has a better religion than the person who surrenders himself to Allah, even though he is a muhsin (one who does good) and follows the religion of Abraham who is hanif? Allah has made Ibrahim as (His) lover."
According to the history of Ibn Abi Hatim from his father, from Mahmud bin Khalid As-Sulami, from Walid, from Ishaq bin Yashar, when Allah SWT chose Prophet Ibrahim AS as His favorite, Allah SWT instilled extraordinary fear in the heart of Prophet Ibrahim AS, to the point that his heartbeat could be heardFrom afar it was like the sound of birds flying in the sky.
Prophet Ibrahim AS was also one of the apostles who received the title ulul azmi. This title is given to prophets and apostles who have extraordinary fortitude in undergoing life's trials.
The story of Prophet Ibrahim AS's ordeal is told directly in the Koran. One of them was when he received an order from Allah SWT to slaughter his son, Prophet Ismail AS. This story is told in surah Ash-Shaffat verse 102. Allah SWT says,
Meaning: "When the child reached (the age) he was able to work with him, he (Ibrahim) said, "O my son, I actually dreamed that I was slaughtering you. Think about what you think?" He (Ismail) answered, "O my father, do what (Allah) commands you! God willing, you will find me among the patient people."
According to the Indonesian Ministry of Religion's Tafsir of the Qur'an, this verse explains the difficult test for Prophet Ibrahim AS. Allah SWT ordered him to slaughter his only son - Ismail AS - as a sacrifice before Allah SWT. According to al-Farra', Ismail AS was 13 years old.
After receiving Allah SWT's command through this dream, Prophet Ibrahim AS, with a sad heart, told Ismail AS. After hearing Allah SWT's command conveyed by his father, Ismail AS with all humility told his father to carry out what he was ordered to do.

Penjaga pintu langit ketujuh kemudian bertanya, "Siapa kamu?"
Jibril menjawab, "Aku Jibril."
Penjaga pintu langit bertanya, "Siapa yang bersamamu?"
Jibril menjawab, "Muhammad."
Allah SWT berfirman dalam surah An Nisa ayat 125,
Kisah cobaan Nabi Ibrahim AS diceritakan langsung dalam Al-Qur'an. Salah satunya ketika ia mendapat perintah dari Allah SWT untuk menyembelih putranya, Nabi Ismail AS. Kisah ini diceritakan dalam surah Ash-Shaffat ayat 102. Allah SWT berfirman,
Artinya: "Ketika anak itu sampai pada (umur) ia sanggup bekerja bersamanya, ia (Ibrahim) berkata, "Wahai anakku, sesungguhnya aku bermimpi bahwa aku menyembelihmu. Pikirkanlah apa pendapatmu?" Dia (Ismail) menjawab, "Wahai ayahku, lakukanlah apa yang diperintahkan (Allah) kepadamu! Insyaallah engkau akan mendapatiku termasuk orang-orang sabar."
Menurut Tafsir Al-Qur'an Kementerian Agama RI, ayat tersebut menerangkan ujian berat bagi Nabi Ibrahim AS. Allah SWT memerintahkan kepadanya agar menyembelih anak satu-satunya--Ismail AS--sebagai kurban di sisi Allah SWT. Menurut al-Farra' umur Ismail AS saat iu 13 tahun.
Wallahu a'lam.
