Defending Nasdem, Jusuf Kalla Reminds Jokowi Not To Get Involved in Politics Ahead of the 2024 Presidential Election

The 10th and 12th Vice Presidents (Wapres) of the Republic of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla reminded President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) not to get too involved in the political constellation ahead of the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres). 

This was conveyed by Jusuf Kalla in response to the non-invitation of the general chairman of the Nasdem Party Surya Paloh in a meeting with the general chairmen of the government's coalition of political parties (political parties) at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday (2/5/2023) last week. 

“In my opinion, the President should be like Mrs. Mega, SBY. That (when the position) will end, then don't get too involved in whether you like it or not in politics. So that it is more democratic," said Jusuf Kalla at his residence, Brawijaya area, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, Saturday (6/5/2023). 

According to him, a meeting at the Palace with general chairmen of political parties is legitimate when discussing nation-building. 

However, if the topic of the nation is being discussed, Surya Paloh should also be invited. This is because the Nasdem Party is a political party in the current government coalition. 

"But, if we talk about development, Nasdem should be invited. (Otherwise) It means there is political talk," said Jusuf Kalla. 

It is known that Jokowi has revealed his reasons for not inviting Surya Paloh to the meeting. 

Jokowi said this stance was taken because Nasdem had now formed its own coalition to face the 2024 presidential election. 

On the other hand, this attitude made Surya Paloh feel abandoned by Jokowi. 

Met at Wisma Nusantara, Menteng, Jakarta, Friday (5/5/2023), Paloh assessed that Jokowi no longer considered Nasdem part of the current government coalition. 

"Jokowi put his positioning as the leader of a coalition of government parties, yes," said Surya Paloh. 

"And he no longer considers Nasdem in the government coalition for the time being," he said again.

Wakil Presiden (Wapres) ke-10 dan 12 RI Jusuf Kalla mengingatkan Presiden Joko Widodo (Jokowi) agar tak terlibat terlalu jauh dalam konstelasi politik jelang Pemilihan Presiden (Pilpres) 2024.

Hal itu disampaikan Jusuf Kalla merespons tidak diundangnya Ketua Umum Partai Nasdem Surya Paloh dalam pertemuan dengan enam ketua umum partai politik (parpol) koalisi pemerintah di di Istana Merdeka, Jakarta, Selasa (2/5/2023) pekan lalu.

“Menurut saya, Presiden seharusnya seperti Ibu Mega, SBY. Itu (ketika jabatan) akan berakhir, maka tidak terlalu jauh melibatkan diri dalam suka atau tidak suka dalam perpolitikan. Supaya lebih demokratis lah,” ujar Jusuf Kalla di kediamannya, kawasan Brawijaya, Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta Selatan, Sabtu (6/5/2023).

Menurutnya, pertemuan di Istana dengan para ketua umum parpol sah-sah saja dilakukan jika membahas soal pembangunan bangsa.

Namun, jika topik soal bangsa yang dibahas seharusnya Surya Paloh turut diundang. Sebab, Partai Nasdem merupakan parpol koalisi pemerintah saat ini.

“Tapi, kalau bicara pembangunan saja, mestinya Nasdem diundang. (Kalau tidak) Berarti ada pembicaraan politik,” kata Jusuf Kalla.

Diketahui, Jokowi telah mengungkapkan alasannya tak mengundang Surya Paloh dalam pertemuan tersebut.

Jokowi mengatakan, sikap itu diambil karena Nasdem saat ini telah membentuk koalisi sendiri untuk menghadapi Pilpres 2024.

Di sisi lain, sikap itu membuat Surya Paloh merasa ditinggalkan oleh Jokowi.

Ditemui di Wisma Nusantara, Menteng, Jakarta, Jumat (5/5/2023), Paloh menilai Jokowi sudah tak lagi menganggap Nasdem bagian dari koalisi pemerintah saat ini.

“Jokowi menempatkan positioning beliau barangkali sebagai pemimpin koalisi partai-partai pemerintahan ya,” ujar Surya Paloh.

“Dan beliau tidak menganggap lagi Nasdem ini di dalam koalisi pemerintahan untuk sementara,” katanya lagi.
