Mega Agrees to Join the Grand Coalition, but 1 Republic of Indonesia's share is a requirement

PDI-P chairman Megawati Soekarnoputri is said to have signaled joining the grand coalition that emerged after a meeting of five pro-government political parties. The condition is that PDIP must get the position of a presidential candidate (candidate) or RI 1.

For your information, the meeting of the five political parties took place on Sunday (2/4/2023) at the PAN Office. The five political parties are Gerindra, PKB, PAN, PPP, and Golkar. President Jokowi was also present at the meeting.

Returning to Mega's hint about the RI 1 quota, this was revealed by PDIP politician Budiman Sudjatmiko. Budiman said that the opportunity to join Megawati Soekarnoputri had agreed.

"Of course the PDIP, as the Ketum said, of course the target is PDIP RI 1, isn't that right? It's natural. This means that Mrs. Ketum Megawati has emphasized that PDIP is willing to join the grand coalition, of course what needs to be emphasized is the PDIP target is RI 1. RI 2 is open to others," said Budiman when contacted, Tuesday (4/4/2023).

So how did the five parties respond?

Gerindra
Gerindra said discussions related to the grand coalition needed to be discussed together to become an agreement.

"So like this, whatever is said regarding the grand coalition, of course, everything must be discussed together and only then will this become a grand coalition which will actually become a coalition of existing parties. Because of that I don't want to comment on who the presidential and vice presidential candidates are, because it is the authority of these parties to discuss when they meet," Dasco told reporters at the DPR Building, Jakarta, Wednesday (5/4/2023).

Dasco emphasized that the meeting of 5 general chairmen of political parties at the PAN headquarters yesterday was an initial meeting. Dasco emphasized that it was too early to talk about a presidential candidate from the grand coalition discourse.

"Yesterday it was a meeting of 5 new parties, but the initial meeting, I think it is still too early for us to talk about presidential candidates, because of course the parties also have their own aspirations that we must listen to," he said.

PKB
PKB DPP chairman Daniel Johan, the discourse on the grand coalition is not necessarily clear. However, even if it is clear, his party will still push the general chairman, Cak Imin, to run for president.

"Yes, PKB is still proposing Cak Imin because that is the mandate of the congress, the basic principle of PKB and Gerindra forming the KKIR is that the presidential and cawapres candidates are determined directly by the two ketum, Cak Imin and Pak Prabowo, and this agreement is still firmly adhered to by the two parties so that it is increasingly solid until now. this, and this is also the main basis for being open with other parties and coalitions," he explained.

Furthermore, Daniel Johan then responded to the PDIP which agreed to join if it received a presidential candidate slot. According to him, joining PDIP is better for the grand coalition.

"It's good that later in parliament it will become stronger and more stable and programs that are important for the people will run more smoothly," he said.
